The Gold Medal Success Secret to Network Marketing
Friday, July 22, 2011 at 01:42PM It’s a fact that each and every Olympic athlete has a coach. The top athletes are known to have their own personal and private coaches who work for them and only them. Now, me – I’ve always believed in having a mentor-coach close by to call upon in time of need. We don't have to do this business along, and it's so okay to have a coach to work with.
I actually met one person who told me that he considered the desire or need to have a coach as a sign of weakness. I was thinking to myself, "Are you kidding?" My reply to this person was that having a coach was - and is - one of the smartest things I have ever done. And I totally believe that.
Having a mentor-coach keeps you focused and accountable. There are so many distractions in this world and too many reasons to get sidetracked from life opportunities. In fact, for this very reason, many of the pro and star athletes have several coaches – each one teaching his or her own specialty.
Choosing Your Coach
Think logically when choosing a coach and you can’t go wrong. For example, say I’d been married for 25 years and had two grown children and now decided to go for marriage counseling. Would I or should I opt for a counselor who has never been married? Of course not. How about a counselor with three or four college degrees who has never married? Might think about it…but no. How about one that’s been married just 5 years to my 25 but has all those degrees? Keep looking. How about a counselor who was married 10 years but never had children? No!
More than likely, I would seek out someone who had been married 30 or 40 years or more and who had raised a brood of healthy, happy kids. It just makes sense, doesn’t it? It might take awhile to find this person, but due diligence will help find the right person.
You would choose a coach in the exact same manner. Decide what it is you want to learn and how much experience you would like this person to have. Determine what is important. Whether or not a coach is married or has children might not matter in some circumstances.
When looking for a network marketing coach, you’ll probably discover that many of the coaches around today have never built an organization. Either that or they did build an organization but that was years and years ago. Watch out for this. Personally, I don’t believe in the old adage of “if you can't do, teach". To me, that just doesn’t make any sense. What worked years ago does not necessarily work today. In the case of networkmarketing, you want the cutting-edge type of the training or you’ll find yourself always falling behind the pack.
Seek out a currently active mentor-coach. If you're choosing a mentor, you’re going to want to someone who is doing it NOW - someone who is active TODAY.
The bottom line is that if the coach in question is not currently active in network marketing – which pays a lot more than coaching – you have to ask yourself why. And the answer is easy: they can't or don't want to do it. Plain and simple. Keep looking.
Also, beware of coaches that tell you that you need to change for any reason!
The truth is that you're perfect just the way you are. You need belief in yourself and in the business. Learn some skills, learn how to take action, and you'll be on your way.
